3 Home Maintenance Projects for your Spring To-Do List

With the current temperature fluctuations, we’re slowly transitioning into spring! As the weather changes, so should your home maintenance routines. It is important to protect your home from the sudden change in weather and ensure your property is running safely and efficiently.

Here are three home maintenance tips that you should add to your spring to-do list:

1. Have your furnace and air conditioning serviced. With the temperature slowly increasing, it’s important to get your air conditioning cleaned and in working order. Some providers offer air conditioning along with furnace servicing as a packaged deal, which is always preferable. Besides this, maintaining your ventilation systems is also important. Vacuuming the filters and core will reduce the dust build up and will ensure clean ventilation.

2. Clean gutters and eavestroughs. Winter often causes gutters and downspouts to fill with ice. This, in turn, causes eavestroughs to get damaged. Therefore, it’s best to check every spring for leaks or any loose attachments to the roof. Make sure to remove the debris and clean your eavestroughs thoroughly with a hose. To do so, first start at the upper end and remove debris while also checking for leaks.

3. Inspect for cracks. It’s imperative that you take your time to inspect for cracks in areas like the basement, the exterior and the foundation wall. In the basement, be sure nothing is leaking and there are no cracks in the pipes or foundation walls. When found, be sure to fill them immediately to prevent further structural damage. The same process should be applied to your driveway and the exterior of your home. Small cracks around windows and driveway need to be addressed as well, as time and weather conditions could cause major damage.
