It has been quite the winter and we’re finally approaching some sunny weather. With the change of a season comes new trends in home decor. From bright colours to accessories, there are many ways you can elevate your space this spring. We have put together a few key interior design trends to keep in mind if you have been considering a refresh.

  1. Make use of wallpaper. Believe it or not, wallpaper has been making a huge comeback! Modern patterns, textured paper, and simplified application are all contributing to this classic trend finding its way into many homes this season. Many are using wallpaper to create an accent wall. If you are thinking this is a huge commitment and a lot of work, many companies have designed temporary wallpaper lines just for you. This peel and stick application allows you to temporarily partake in this trend without damaging your walls or taking too much time.
  1. Incorporate worn wood tones. Well worn or reclaimed wood pieces can instantly bring warmth to your space. The tones and imperfections add a bespoke element to your spring interior design. Not only is this trend sustainable, it has the potential to be a staple throughout your home.
  1. Accessorize. The more-is-more attitude is back and better than ever with decorative accents. Over the last couple of years, designers have seen more homes with an abundance of accessories. Anything from art, books, vases, candles etc., are taking spaces by storm to create dimension and add pops of colour to each room.

Whether you’re adding a few bits and bobs to your bookshelf or investing in some incredible reclaimed wood pieces, your home is bound to feel fresh and brand new. We hope you’re feeling inspired to revamp your space for spring. We would love to see what trends you have taken part in!

As we are at the beginning of spring already, you may be thinking your rear garden needs a little help after winter. Your patio furniture might need some sprucing up or you have moved into a new home this past season and need some fresh and new ideas. We have put together a few tips to help you elevate your rear garden this spring.

  1. Create zones in the rear garden. An important aspect of any open interior or exterior design is to create defined zones. A great way to do this in a rear garden is to use furniture, long planters, pergolas, and area rugs to distinguish between seating areas, dining areas, etc. These will help create an overall flow to the space and a purpose for each section.
  1. Include many seating options. The rear garden is the perfect spot to entertain, especially as we head into spring and summer. An important thing to consider is ample seating for all your guests. If you have a smaller rear garden, incorporating benches with storage not only creates extra seating but also allows for practical and discrete organization. There are a variety of seating options to choose from, including lounge chairs, stools, and couches, each serving its purpose.
  1. Implement a focal point. Another way to elevate your rear garden is to focus your design on one specific item. Whether it is a gorgeous plant, outdoor fireplace, or a pool; choosing something that you want to be the centre of attention then allows you to choose colours and decor that compliments this piece. Each item working together creates a cohesive rear garden your guests are sure to rave about.

There are an endless number of options to elevate your rear garden to create the perfect atmosphere to enjoy all season. We hope that these few tips can help guide you in creating your outdoor oasis. Let us know what you end up doing with your rear garden this year!

When done right, a bathroom remodel can help increase the value of your home. It is important to work with a contractor that you trust and be aware of what can go wrong and what to expect. We have put together a few of dos and don’ts for your next bathroom renovation.

  1. Do Waterproof the Bathroom. Waterproofing your bathroom may seem like an obvious task; however, it can be overlooked and done incorrectly. It is important to remember that water can get everywhere in a bathroom, even on ceilings. When planning out renovations with your contractor, be sure to talk about plans to waterproof and ensure that walls from floor to ceiling are going to be covered. Improperly waterproofing your bathroom can cause mold to grow which can aggravate your allergies or asthma.
  1. Do Budget for the Unexpected. A bathroom renovation can become pricey, especially if there are any surprises along the way. When renovating an older home, it is important to remember that improper ventilation or hidden water damage could result in some extra work. It is always a good idea to leave a cushion in your budget of at least 10-15% in case there are any unexpected and serious repairs.
  1. Don’t Install Hardwood. When choosing the flooring for your bathroom, there are many quality tiles to choose from. One flooring option that is never a good idea in a high moisture environment is hardwood flooring. With hardwood floors, you risk the chance of capturing moisture which can ruin the hardwood and cause mold growth. Porcelain tiles are highly recommended as they are very durable and have a very low moisture absorption.

If you have a strong plan, a great contractor, and these tips your remodel should go as smoothly as possible. What remodelling plans do you have soon? Trends are continuously changing, and since we are spending so much time in our homes, it is time to refresh our spaces. The days of decorating at the bare minimum are gone; in 2022 we’re aiming for functionality. Having the perfect space to meet your everyday needs has become essential. To help you get started, we have put together a few home design trends we should expect for the new year.

  1. Create a Designated Room. The need for a home office skyrocketed in the last couple of years and now homeowners are looking to have more designated spaces for their everyday activities. It has become more common to have a recreational room, gym, spa, etc. The need to have a space dedicated to a hobby or to create entertainment value has become a need as more people are staying home and buyers appreciate this already in place.
  2. Elevate your Kitchen. As we move into 2022, we are seeing more homeowners invest in showstopping kitchens. The use of luxury materials and bold finishes is increasing in popularity. While a completely white kitchen is still common, more are exploring rich colours for their cabinets, countertops, and backsplash. Most of us spend a lot of time in the kitchen, and it is the heart of the home, so why not make it a space that you are excited to live in?
  3. Utilize Antique and Vintage Furniture. In the last year or so, we have seen quite the delays in production and delivery of furniture. As an alternative, many have been opting for antiques and vintage, which add interest. We have always enjoyed the pieces we have procured, and we never tire of them. It is readily available to purchase from a variety of reputable dealers and ready to be shipped, and it also brings charm into your home.

The task of making your house a home can take some time. We hope these trends will give you some inspiration. We are always ready to chat with you about your ideas!

It can be easy to fall into the more common red and green theme when decorating your home for the winter season. However, there are many ways you can elevate your decorations to make your home feel warm and cozy all winter long. We have put together a few ideas we think you might enjoy as you begin to decorate your space.

  1. Highlight the Fireplace. A fireplace can be the heart of the home, especially in the winter. The cozy and warm atmosphere a fireplace can bring is one of the best winter decorating accessories you’ll ever need. During the holiday season, you can enhance your fireplace mantel with gorgeous candles, garlands, and string lights.
  1. Add Touches of Greenery Outdoors. While the winter may take away our beautiful gardens, using greenery instead is sure to liven up your front entry. On either side of your door, fill planters with freshly cut greenery, branches, pine cones, and beautiful ribbon to add something a little extra.  Additionally, a winter classic is of course a beautiful wreath on your front door.
  1. Create Wintery Centrepieces. There are so many options when it comes to decorating for winter that it may be overwhelming to know where to start. A small but impactful decoration, to begin with, is centrepieces. These can be used on dining tables, coffee tables, and side tables throughout your home. One of the benefits of creating a centrepiece is that they are very versatile. Use greenery, pine cones, and twigs for a warm wintery look and use cranberries, dried orange slices, and string lights for a bright and fresh winter look.

The kitchen is the heart of the home and where you spend most of your time cooking or eating meals with your loved ones. Ensuring your kitchen has the proper layout and configuration is crucial to creating a space you will love to use every day. There are many details to think about when redesigning your kitchen. To help you ease the stress, we have put together a few tips to help you through your kitchen remodelling journey.

  1. Determine the island’s function. If you’re thinking of including an island in your kitchen design, think about how you would like to use the island within the space first. If you plan on having your cooktop on one side and bar stools on the other, you need to make sure that the cooktop is a safe distance from the dining area. Other items that are typically considered in the design of a kitchen island include sinks, dishwashers, and microwaves.
  1. Consider your countertops. When choosing countertops, there are a few things to consider, one being the counter space overall. If you are an avid cook or baker, try planning for as much counter space as possible. Additionally, the material used for your countertops is crucial. Marble might be gorgeous, but it can also stain very easily. Similarly, wood is a popular choice, however, remember that it must be sealed properly to prevent damage.
  1. Double up on kitchen appliances. If you have a large family or cook often, it might be beneficial to double up on some staple kitchen appliances. Having two microwaves and two ovens is a great way to help reduce overall cooking time, especially for holiday meals such as Thanksgiving and Christmas. Another great appliance to double up on is the dishwasher. When hosting large dinner parties, the dishes can start to pile up and having more than one dishwasher can help alleviate the workload.

When redesigning a kitchen, there are many details and it can be easy to lose track of the end goal. Starting with a detailed plan ahead of time can help in creating your ideal space. We hope these tips can help you in your kitchen remodel and we would love to hear if you try any of these yourself.

The start of a new season brings many changes along with it and one of those changes is our home interior. Whether it be seasonal decor or a complete redecoration, knowing where to begin—and where to stop—can be tricky. We have put together three ways you can elegantly refresh your home this season.

  1. Add seasonal touches in moderation. Having just a few elements of seasonal decor sprinkled around your home makes for an elegant atmosphere. A great way to elevate your space for the fall season is to incorporate seasonal plants. Our favourites are mums, which look great out on your front porch accompanied by some pumpkins. The warm fall colour right at your door will set the tone for the whole house.
  2. Layer with pillows and throws. One of the simplest ways to refresh your home for the fall is by accenting with pillows and throws. Incorporating warm-toned accessories into your neutral-toned furniture can help transform a space for the season without too much commitment. Consider incorporating pillows with textured fabrics such as velvet or mohair and classic patterns such as plaid or stripes for that extra touch.
  3. Create your signature home scent. Fall brings many lovely scents: pumpkin, cinnamon, apple cider, and crisp fall air. If you want to get creative, a great way to create your home’s very own signature scent is by using fresh ingredients, including vanilla, cinnamon sticks, cloves, pine needles, oranges and anise. Combine any of these together and add them to a pot of water to let simmer on the stove, and there you have your homemade potpourri.

Refreshing your home for the fall season can be accomplished in many different ways. Overall, even the simplest adjustment can completely change a space. We hope this can give you some home decor inspiration and we would love to hear some of your fall tips and tricks!

As summer winds down and we approach a new season, this is a great time to get your home organized. Sorting and decluttering can be overwhelming, so to help you achieve your organization goals we have gathered a few tips so you can head into the fall season with a clear vision for reorganizing your home.

1. Use Hooks to Maximize Wall Space. The coming of fall brings an abundance of coats and jackets, all of which tend to pile up in a front hall closet with very little space for much else. To avoid this mess, consider adding beautiful hooks to your desired wall. These are easily customizable with many different styles to choose from and can organize all of your accessories, including coats, umbrellas, and masks.

2. Colour Code Holiday Decor Bins. We all know that fall is a busy season for holidays, including Thanksgiving and Halloween, with Christmas not too far ahead in the future. Holiday decoration storage can get messy, and you may find yourself year after year wondering where your cornucopia centrepiece went. Try incorporating colour-coded bins to help organize your holiday pieces, using something like orange for Halloween and red for Christmas. Decorating your home will have never been easier.

3. Invest in a Closet Organization System. Occasionally, bedroom closets will only have a shelf and a hanging rod. Organizing your clothes can be overwhelming and seemingly impossible with this little to work within. Consider investing in a closet organization system. The choice is yours when it comes to how many shelves, drawers or compartments you want. When thinking about what you might want to include, envision your daily routine and what you tend to reach for the most. If you create a cohesive sorting system for your wardrobe, dressing for the day will be a breeze.

Organizing your home can seem like a daunting task at first; however, if you are taking it all one step at a time you can achieve the organized home of your dreams. We would love to hear your best home organizing tips and ideas!

Home design trends are constantly changing, not only over the years but every season. It can be difficult to keep up with the latest fads and change the style of your home every few months or so. Well, to avoid all of that we’re suggesting a few ways you can keep up with the latest trends without committing to a whole new design.
  1. Add on-trend accent pillows. One of the easiest ways to freshen up and upgrade your living room is by adding some accent pillows. Enhance any neutral-toned couch or chair with a bright, bold or textured pillow. If you’re looking to be even more on-trend this summer, round and shell-shaped pillows are the talks of the season. When the trends change, you can easily switch out the pillow covers for new ones that will follow the trend. The options are endless and your pillows are bound to make a statement!
  1. Use accessories to enhance your space. Accessorizing can be tricky at times, if not done properly. When accessorizing to elevate your space, avoid creating too much clutter. Instead, you can strategically choose which items you will accessorize with, to remain on-trend and practical. Instead of a sculpture, try a structured vase or planter, both of which are very much on-trend this summer. The accessories can easily be switched out from time to time to appeal to the current design trends.

  2. Switch out rugs and light fixtures. This summer, one of the biggest trends is neutral-toned rugs with over-the-top texture and rattan lamp shades. Rugs are a perfect way to tie a room together and bring out the personality of a space. While keeping staple pieces of furniture more neutral, rugs are easily interchangeable when following a temporary trend. Light fixtures are another focal point of any room. The easiest way to ensure your light fixtures are following any trend is by simply replacing their shades.
We know it can be challenging to keep up with the newest trends and we hope these tips can help make it a more enjoyable task. Let us know if you try any of these fun ideas!
